Young Students Scientist Programme (YSSP)

   AVC College (Autonomous) has been selected as a Programme Centre to conduct YSSP for the benefit of 9th std Govt. school students of Nagai and Pudukkottai Districts. The objective of this programme is to show the potential and provide them exposure to the Scientific environment of the higher educational institutions. Under this programme, 100 young students studying IX std in Government schools in villages (from Pudukottai and Nagapattinam Districts– each 50) are selected based on their past performance in Science subjects.

BENEFITS OF YSSP

• The students are given special training on science subjects for a period of 20 days during summer vacation (May) by highly qualified faculty members of the Institution
• The students once get selected during their IX std are eligible to participate in YSSP for 2 years, i.e., during the summer vacation of IX std and X std studies
• The students are given theoretical instruction during the morning sessions and the afternoon sessions are spent on practical work where they are allowed to do experiments independently
• During this training, the students acquire sound knowledge in all science subjects. Special lectures are arranged in various disciplines and the field trips to scientific institutions and industries are part of 20 days package of the training programme
• Towards the end of the programme, the students were divided into groups and they are made to work on special science and technology projects in different disciplines
• They are encouraged to make models and do experiments when they are back to their schools. Each student will be attached to a mentor who will guide him/her in pursuing a scientific career.
