ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

    The Department of Commerce was started in the academic year 1968-1969, with inception of B.Com course. It was elevated to a Post Graduate Department in the year 1975-1976. To give thrust to women’s education, B.Com was started as a separate wing during 1984-1985.

    The Department was further elevated to a Research Department to offer M.Phil Course full time and part time from 1985-1986. From 1994, the Department was elevated to a full-fledged Research Department for offering Ph.D full time and part time Programme. Hence our Department has become one of the research centres for offering Ph.D Programme under FDP/UGC Fellowship so far 24 scholars have been awarded Doctorate, 01 scholar is awaiting viva-voce and 24 scholars are at various stages of their research work.

VISION: 
  • In view of the extensive development taking place in Commerce education, the department wishes to offer core and applied programme of  UG and PG levels with specialization in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Taxation and Accounting. This may  lead to the formation of School of Commerce

  • As most of the students have admitted from rural area, special attention will be given to impart knowledge, which will enhance their present level of employability  

MISSION:

  • To achieve the above goal, the department is attempting to improve the quality of the programmes offered by improving the teaching methodology and    interactive lectures, besides introducing   E-learning.

  • To impart latest developments taking place in trade, industry, commerce and practicing business in curriculum development and examination evaluation system.

          Focus on modern methods of teaching such as role play, case study, etc.

COURSES OFFERED

  1. B.Com., - Commerce (Day & Evening)

    Eligibility:A pass in +2 with Commerce, Accountancy, Business Maths/ Statistics/Economics/Principals of Economics/ Computer Science  

  2. M.Com., -Commerce (Day & Evening)

    Eligibility:A Graduation in Commerce

  3. M.Phil., - Commerce

    Eligibility:A Post Graduation in Commerce

  4. Ph.D., - Commerce

    A Post Graduation in Commerce with minimum of 55% of marks

OBJECTIVES:

  • To attain the vision through mission, the Department has the following multiple objectives viz.

  • Periodical updating of Syllabus, improvement of the teaching methodology and student counselling.

  • Student support services such as offering remedial coaching classes, placement facilities in reputed concerns.

  • To have tie-up arrangements with the external sources to improve the practical knowledge of the students for employability of job opportunities.

  • Enabling the teaching staff to update their  knowledge  through Workshops, Seminars etc.,

Association activities and Special Lectures

Every year special lectures were organized on the latest topics with the help of UGC, Management, COSIP and Science Association funds to improve the scientific knowledge.

Paper specialization

Horticulture and Herbal Medicine are being offered as Extra Disciplinary course for PG students.

Innovative curriculum

Choice Based credit system is being offered for both UG and PG Botany students.

Other Regular Activities

Six regional and Two State Level seminars were organized to enrich the student knowledge.

The department is involved in the Young Student Scientist Programme for the benefit of high school students and COSIP for college students.

Conducts Botanical Tour to various parts of our country to enrich the field knowledge of students. Also a Botanic garden is being maintained in the campus.

Extension Service Activities

Numbers of extension activities were organized every year in the areas like cultivation of edible mushroom and organic farming in surrounding Villages. Staff members are doing their service in association with Campus Diversity Initiative and Exnora.
