About

    Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field and requires people from different working areas. It is the combination of biology and computer science and is a new emerging field that helps in collecting, linking, and manipulating different types of biological information to discover new biological insight. Before the emergence of bioinformatics, all scientists working in different biological fields, such as human science, ecological science and many other fields, feel a necessity of some tool that helps them to work together. They knew they are all interlinked and had important information for each other, but they did not know how to integrate. In such circumstances, bioinformatics emerges to help these scientists or researchers in fast research and leads to quick inventions by providing readily available information with the help of computer technology. Thus, observing the importance of Bioinformatics in major fields like Medical, Pharmaceutical and Agriculture, A.V.C College (Autonomous) Mannampandal, has established a separate Department of Bioinformatics during the year 2003. The department of Bioinformatics offers two years post graduate programme [M.Sc] in Bioinformatics and one year post graduate diploma in Bioinformatics [PGDBI], with focus on traditional strengths in science and with emphasis on experimental, practical oriented approach. We offer innovative academic programmes and continuously upgrade our curriculum with futuristic approach.

  • To foster high quality, innovative and multi disciplinary practical oriented post graduate training in Bioinformatics.To generate intellectual property by creating knowledge base, tools and methods to manage and understand large, diverse biological, chemistry, computer science, and medical data sets.To actively engage in knowledge and technology transfer.
