ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Microbiology was started in the year 1998 with B.Sc., and M.Sc., programme in Microbiology was started in 2001, with a well equipped laboratory and class rooms which gives a suitable and comfortable environment to the students in learning.  The Department gives 100% results in PG classes till date and the Department was honoured as a “BEST DEPARTMENT” in academics - 2008.  The average pass percentage in UG for the past five years is 97.6.  The Department provides a good theoretical foundation through high quality teaching complemented by extensive practical training.

VISION:-To Produce quality Life Science Graduates with diverse range of  careers ranging from R&D to LifeSciences related industries

MISSION:-To enhance the  knowledge of rural based students in latest developments of life sciences with anunique opportunity to do research

OBJECTIVES:-

*) To Build a fundamental technique, language, knowledge and skill set relevant to the microbiological industry

*) To raise awareness among graduates about the potential applications of their domain knowledge in the microbiological industry

COURSES OFFERED 

  1. B. Sc., - Microbiology

  2. Eligibility:- A Pass in +2 with a group of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics or  Biology, Chemistry, Maths/Physics

  3. M. Sc., - Microbiology

  4. Eligibility:- A Graduate in a relative discipline

INFRA STRUCTURE FACILITIES:  

  1. PHASE CONTRAST MICROSCOPE

  2. Most useful for observing transparent, unstained, live cells. Not ideal for thick samples that may appear distorted .Halo effects or 'phase artifacts' may be present distorting details around the perimeter of the sample. Superior to bright-field optics. Fine details which are invisible under bright-field optics show up in high contrast.

  3. B.O.D incubator

  4. BOD Incubator is commonly used for determination of biochemical oxygen demand and for preservation of medicinal vaccines, various chemicals and others.

  5. U.V.SPECTROSCOPY

  6. UV absorption spectroscopy is one of the best methods for determination of impurities  in organic molecules. Additional peaks can be observed due to impurities in the sample and it can be compared with that of standard raw material. By also measuring the absorbance at specific wave length , the impurities can be detected.

  7. DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE

  8.  In our department we have a Diagnostic centre to help the rural peoples in our area.

    1. Blood grouping, pregnancy test, SGOT, SGPT, ASO,

    2. VDRL, blood sugar, urine analysis, haemoglobin estimation, clotting time,
         bleeding time, widal test, RBC, WBC, Differential count etc.,
